Dallas Harding Jones
Dallas Harding Jones, 90, of Colonial Heights, VA, formerly of Halifax, died Sunday, December 8, 2013, with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Jones was born in Duplin County, NC, and was the son of the late Isaac Edmond and Jabez Mobley Jones. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy Sue Tooley Jones; a sister, Nisha J. Mohorn, a sister-in-law, Anita Jones of Emporia, VA, a brother-in-law, William Shanklin Sr. of Beckley, WV, and four brothers, Talmadge E. Jones, James Murdic Jones, Carl Coolidge Jones, and Isaac Osborne Jones.
Mr. Jones served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor 72 years ago. He later retired from the Navy. He was the Founder of the Roanoke Valley Veterans Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter, Pamela J. Myrick and her husband Tom E. Myrick, Jr. of Colonial Heights, VA.; his son, Dallas Harding Jones II of Santa Monica, CA.; one granddaughter, Peggy Elizabeth Myrick; one grandson, Thomas E. Myrick, III and his wife, Colleen; one great grandson, Jack Thomas Myrick; sisters, Velma J. Shanklin of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Susie J. Clizbe of Halifax, Opal Loflin and her husband, Don of Merryville, TN, Eudene J. Freuler and her husband, Bill of Lake Gaston, Hazeline J. Medlin and her husband, Bobby of Halifax, Eleanor J. Hales and her husband, Ronnie of Halifax; brother, Forrest Jones and his wife, Ellen of Halifax; sisters-in-law, Liz Jones of Linwood, NJ and Lois Jones of Greenville, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Jones will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Jonathan Lane officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro with full Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 10, 2013, from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Mr. Jones to Community Center Baptist Church at 2360 Ridgecrest Road Halifax, NC 27839.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half staff in honor of Mr. Jones’ service to his country.
